New Class A/B foam introduced at U.S. fire industry event

Perimeter Solutions has announced the release of a new firefighting foam at FDIC 2025 in the United States.

The company presented the SOLBERG SPARTAN 1% Fluorine-Free Class A/B Foam Concentrate at the start of the conference.

According to Perimeter Solutions, the product is designed for a wide range of fire scenarios including structural, wildland, vehicle, gasoline and dumpster fires.

Craig McDonnell, Vice President, Americas Fire Suppression at Perimeter Solutions, said: “SOLBERG SPARTAN is a game-changing product for firefighters.

“One foam for 99% of fires, it is our most effective fluorine-free Class A/B foam, delivering fast knockdowns, reducing flashover risk, and providing superior heat protection.”

Reduction in firefighting time and water demand

The product has been developed to improve cooling and knockdown speeds compared to water alone.

Perimeter Solutions cited internal data showing that water takes nearly four minutes to reduce fire temperature from 1,000°F to 212°F, while the foam mixture can do so in under two minutes.

The company stated that use of the foam reduces water demand by 40 percent, helping firefighters to preserve resources and work more efficiently.

McDonnell added: “The key advantage of SOLBERG SPARTAN is how it supports firefighter safety. By reducing the amount of time needed to battle a fire, it decreases a firefighter’s exposure and keeps crews ahead of fast-changing conditions.”

Equipment compatibility and certification details

SOLBERG SPARTAN is compatible with commonly used firefighting tools and systems, including inline eductors, nozzles, foam devices, monitors and compressed air foam systems.

Its viscosity is similar to Class A foam, allowing use in onboard proportioning systems without requiring changes to existing setups.

The foam has received multiple certifications:

  • UL 162/ULC S654 Listed for 1% use on Class B hydrocarbon non-water miscible fuel fires
  • UL/ULC Classified for 0.1% use on Class A fires and 0.25% for Class B non-water miscible fires
  • Class A Wetting Agent certification under ANSI/NFPA 18

No PFAS and field-focused performance

The product has no intentionally added PFAS, addressing regulatory and environmental concerns regarding chemical content in fire suppression agents.

Kurt Becker, Controller, Americas Fire Suppression at Perimeter Solutions, said: “We are proud to introduce this battle-ready foam technology, providing firefighters with a solution that maximizes efficiency, conserves water, and minimizes property damage.”

Becker added: “As a former firefighter, I know firsthand what’s needed in the field, and today’s firefighters will be impressed by how SOLBERG SPARTAN delivers excellent performance while supporting firefighter safety.”
