Global demand for flame retardant textiles is set for sustained growth over the next decade as industrial employers, transportation operators and public safety agencies continue to prioritize fire-resistant materials.
According to research from SNS Insider, the flame retardant textile market was valued at $10.78 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $24.37 billion by 2035, expanding at a compound annual growth rate of 8.52% from 2026 to 2035.
The market’s expansion is being driven by stricter fire safety requirements and the growing use of safety-compliant fabrics in high-risk workplaces. SNS Insider cited workplace safety data from the United Nations Environment Programme and the International Labour Organization indicating that millions of work-related deaths occur globally each year, with fire and heat exposure continuing to be a significant industrial risk.
Protective clothing remains the leading application for flame retardant textiles, accounting for 41.60% of market revenue in 2025. Demand is strongest across oil and gas, construction, manufacturing, firefighting, military and industrial safety applications.
Transportation textiles are forecast to be one of the fastest-growing application areas, with SNS Insider projecting a 12.82% CAGR from 2026 to 2035. Growth is linked to wider use of fire-resistant textiles in automotive, rail and aviation interiors, as well as increasing safety requirements for electric vehicles.
By fiber type, natural fibers held the largest share in 2025 at 42.60% of revenue, supported by their use in protective clothing, home textiles and industrial safety fabrics. Synthetic fibers, including polyester, aramids and nylon, are expected to record the fastest growth through 2035 because of their durability, thermal resistance and suitability for high-performance applications.
Aerospace was the largest end-use category in 2025, representing 38.50% of revenue. Certified flame retardant textiles are used in aircraft seating, flooring, insulation and other interior applications, supported by commercial fleet growth and military aircraft modernization.
Automotive is projected to post the fastest end-use growth, with an expected CAGR of 11.29% from 2026 to 2035. SNS Insider pointed to rising vehicle production, stricter interior safety standards, electric vehicle fire-resistance requirements and the broader adoption of lightweight materials.
North America led the global flame retardant textile market in 2025 with an estimated 36.80% share, driven by workplace safety regulations, fire safety standards and demand for protective clothing across industrial sectors. The United States market was valued at $2.96 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach approximately $5.80 billion by 2035, growing at a CAGR of 6.98%.
Asia Pacific is expected to be the fastest-growing region, with SNS Insider forecasting a 10.36% CAGR from 2026 to 2035. Industrialization and manufacturing expansion in China, India, Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia are increasing demand for fire-resistant protective clothing and technical textiles.
Manufacturers are also expected to benefit from increased investment in smart protective textiles that combine flame resistance with additional performance features such as temperature sensing and improved durability. Demand is also being supported by defense modernization programs and the need for advanced protective clothing in hazardous industrial environments.
With safety regulation, electric vehicle development, aerospace growth and industrial risk management all shaping purchasing decisions, the flame-retardant textile sector is expected to remain a key market for suppliers serving fire and safety applications.
