Kord Fire Protection is urging property owners, facility managers and building operators across Southern California to prioritize routine fire sprinkler inspections to help maintain building safety, code compliance and emergency readiness.
The Los Angeles-based fire protection company said fire sprinkler systems remain among the most important life safety systems in commercial and residential buildings, but many issues affecting performance may not be visible during normal day-to-day operations.
According to the company, problems such as closed valves, corrosion, leaks, damaged components, obstructed piping, missing signage, aging parts and impaired monitoring connections can create significant risks if not identified through proper inspection, testing and maintenance.
Annual fire sprinkler inspections are designed to evaluate the visible condition of system components, including control valves, sprinkler heads, gauges, piping, water flow devices, supervisory equipment and related system elements. Five-year inspections provide a more detailed assessment of internal system conditions, helping identify corrosion, scale, sludge, sediment or other obstructions that could affect water flow during an emergency.
“For building owners and property managers, sprinkler inspections are not just a compliance item,” said Darius Kordabadi. “They are one of the most practical ways to understand the condition of a building’s fire protection system before a real emergency exposes a problem.”
The company said inspection programs operate within a broader fire safety and compliance framework that includes standards such as National Fire Protection Association’s NFPA 25, along with California Title 19, the California Fire Code, the California Building Code and the Los Angeles Fire Department Chief’s Regulation 4.
