Study highlights fire trends in Bogotá from 2014 to 2021

The Official Fire Department of Bogotá has released a comprehensive study titled “Structural Fire Risk Scenario in Bogotá,” detailing the fire statistics and analysis for the city between 2014 and 2021, as reported by The Official Fire Department of Bogotá.

This study provides a detailed overview of structural fires in Bogotá, examining their frequency, causes, and impact across different sectors, including housing, commercial, and industrial areas.

The findings offer critical insights into fire behavior and risks, making this publication a valuable resource for the fire protection sector.

Role of the fire department in Bogotá

The Official Fire Department of Bogotá is a key player in emergency management and disaster prevention within the District Risk Management and Climate Change System.

Empowered by Decree 555 of 2011, the department aims to foster a culture of risk prevention and disaster mitigation among the population.

Structural fires, with their potential for significant property damage and loss of life, underscore the importance of identifying trends and high-risk areas to implement effective intervention measures.

Analyzing structural fire risk in the capital district

In line with its mandate under Law 1575 of 2012 and Law 1523 of 2012, the Fire Department has conducted a thorough analysis of the structural fire risk scenario in Bogotá.

The study focuses on identifying the location, severity, and likelihood of structural fires to enhance decision-making processes related to fire risk management.

The report covers data from 2014 to 2021, excluding the locality of Sumapaz, which did not have significant fire incidents during this period.

Spatial and temporal analysis of fires

The study’s analysis includes a spatial and temporal examination of fires in Bogotá’s 19 localities, identifying causes and social conditions contributing to fire incidents.

By understanding these factors, the department aims to develop targeted intervention measures to prevent and mitigate structural fires, ultimately protecting the lives and property of Bogotá’s residents.
