As reported by the NFPA, the Fire Protection Research Foundation (FPRF), a research affiliate of the National Fire Protection Association, has announced the addition of two new trustees.
Josh Brackett, corporate regulatory director of facilities at Banner Health, brings a wealth of expertise in healthcare facilities management and fire safety compliance.
Brackett co-founded Legacy FM, a platform designed to support healthcare facilities teams through specialized education and training.
Currently pursuing a JD at Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law, he aims to influence federal policy and reform industry standards.
Brackett has an extensive background in fire protection design and compliance.
His career spans roles in engineering, contracting, and healthcare organizations, where he contributed to regulatory compliance and energy management initiatives.
Kevin Sehlmeyer, Michigan State fire marshal and director of the Bureau of Fire Services, has also been appointed to the FPRF board.
Sehlmeyer serves in multiple advisory roles, including as the first vice president of the International Fire Marshals Association and a member of the Vision 20/20 Advisory Council.
With over 30 years of fire service leadership, Sehlmeyer has focused on firefighter safety, health, and emergency preparedness.
He oversees MI Prevention, a statewide community risk reduction (CRR) program recognized for promoting fire safety education and distributing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to Michigan residents.
Sehlmeyer’s leadership has contributed to enhancing fire codes and expanding CRR efforts, supporting over 700 fire departments across Michigan.
The FPRF Board of Trustees comprises nine members responsible for overseeing the foundation’s strategic planning, research priorities, and fiduciary management.
The foundation operates as an independent entity focused on advancing fire safety research in support of NFPA’s mission.
The foundation manages dozens of projects at any time, addressing topics such as fire suppression systems, emergency response, and industrial hazards.
Over four decades, its reports have been accessed by professionals in more than 160 countries.
The FPRF research findings provide critical insights into fire safety, public education, and industrial hazards.
Its studies on detection and signaling, building safety, and wildfire preparedness aim to enhance the safety of communities worldwide.
FPRF projects directly support NFPA’s goals of improving fire safety standards and addressing emerging risks.
The foundation’s ongoing research aligns with NFPA’s broader mission to reduce fire-related injuries and fatalities globally.
The Fire Protection Research Foundation (FPRF) has added Josh Brackett, corporate regulatory director at Banner Health, and Kevin Sehlmeyer, Michigan State fire marshal, to its board of trustees.
Brackett brings expertise in healthcare facilities management and aims to drive national code reform.
Sehlmeyer, with over 30 years of fire service leadership, leads Michigan’s MI Prevention program and promotes enhanced fire safety measures.
The FPRF Board oversees the foundation’s strategic priorities and research initiatives, which support the NFPA’s global mission of advancing fire safety.
