U.S. Fire Administrator’s Summit to discuss critical issues in the fire service

The third U.S. Fire Administrator’s Summit on Fire Prevention and Control will take place on October 8, 2024, at the National Emergency Training Center (NETC) in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Fire service leaders from across the United States will gather to discuss pressing issues affecting the fire service.

For those unable to attend in person, a virtual participation option is available, with registration still open for virtual attendees.

This year’s event will address key topics including climate change, firefighter health and safety, recruitment challenges, and updates to building codes.

Federal leaders and members of the White House Cabinet will participate in hearing testimonies from national fire service experts.

In-person registration closed, virtual attendance still available

While registration for in-person participation is closed, virtual attendance remains an option.

The event will be livestreamed on October 8, 2024, via the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

Those who registered for in-person attendance but still need to secure meal tickets must purchase them in advance, as no tickets will be sold on-site.

The event will serve as a forum for fire service leaders and federal officials to review key challenges and present solutions to enhance fire safety nationwide.

Participants will also learn about new initiatives, such as the National Fire Data Platform NERIS, which focuses on improving the accuracy and accessibility of fire data.

Afternoon sessions to focus on scientific advancements

The afternoon sessions of the summit, titled the “State of Science,” will focus on key areas including Structure Fire Impact and Resilience, Science to the Station, Climate Driven Data and Technology, and the U.S. Fire Administration’s Wildfire Evacuation Project.

These sessions aim to highlight the latest research and developments that can support fire departments in addressing the increasing complexities they face.

By tackling issues like climate-driven wildfires and advancements in station safety, the summit seeks to improve both the operational safety of firefighters and the overall efficiency of fire prevention strategies.

This focus on science-driven initiatives will help align the fire service with cutting-edge data and technology.

Continuing a legacy of fire prevention and control efforts

The U.S. Fire Administrator’s Summit follows a long-standing tradition of engaging national leadership in discussions on fire prevention, life safety, and control efforts.

This initiative traces back to 1947, when President Harry S. Truman hosted the first National Conference on Fire Prevention.

In 2022, on the 75th anniversary of that original conference, the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) renewed this tradition.

The 2024 summit will build upon these earlier efforts by bringing together top fire officials and federal policymakers to explore ways to address fire-related challenges across the country.
