Fire Department celebrates 33 years in Teófilo Otoni, Brazil

The Military Fire Department of Minas Gerais (CBMMG) in Brazil, celebrated the 33rd anniversary of its installation in Teófilo Otoni, with a ceremony that connected military authorities, civilians and the local community.

The unit, which serves 62 municipalities in the Mucuri and Jequitinhonha Valleys, is composed of platoons in the cities of Teófilo Otoni, Araçuaí, Almenara and Itaobim, playing a key role in the region.

During the ceremony, medals of Military Merit, gold and bronze were awarded, and military personnel were honored who stood out in the operational and administrative areas of the 2nd Military Fire Company.

In addition, several local authorities received the “Friend of the Firefighter” trophy, an honor created to recognize those who contributed, directly or indirectly, to the creation and development of the unit and the actions carried out over these 33 years.

Teófilo Otoni’s history

The history of the Fire Department in Teófilo Otoni began on February 6, 1992, with the installation of the Second Fire Fighting Section, the result of an agreement between the Government of the State of Minas Gerais and the Municipality of Teófilo Otoni.

Initially subordinated to the 1st Fire Group of the capital of Minas Gerais, the unit was elevated to the status of Second Military Fire Company on August 6, 2015, continuing to be linked to the Sixth Military Fire Battalion, headquartered in Governador Valadares.

Currently, the 2nd Military Fire Company, commanded by Lieutenant Alonso Vieira Júnior, has a staff of 123 military firefighters, specialized in firefighting, search and rescue, pre-hospital care, prevention and inspections, among others.
