New smoke and carbon monoxide alarm connects to Google Home system

First Alert has announced a new smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarm that is compatible with Google Nest Protect devices.

According to First Alert, the alarm can connect with other compatible devices, enabling synchronized alerts across the home.

The new alarm works within the Google Home app and can be used to replace existing Nest alarms or expand coverage.

The announcement confirms that the First Alert Smart Smoke & CO Alarm is designed to be added directly in the Google Home app.

When one alarm detects smoke or carbon monoxide, all connected alarms will activate, providing alerts whether users are home or away.

Alarm features early warnings, voice alerts and app control

The dual-function alarm includes several features aimed at improving home safety and ease of use.

These include early voice alerts to notify residents of potential danger and mobile notifications when the user is not home.

First Alert stated that the alarm offers early warnings to detect smoke or CO before an emergency escalates.

Users can silence the alarm using either the First Alert app or the Google Home app.

Alarm supports wired and wireless interconnectivity

The system supports both wired and wireless interconnectivity with other compatible alarms.

This means that when one alarm is triggered, all linked alarms will sound.

First Alert noted that its smart alarm can also connect to non-smart First Alert alarms to create a broader alert system.

The company said the alarm’s wide Wi-Fi range and mobile app support allow for testing and low-battery alerts.

Launch in United States and Canada with multiple purchase options

The alarm will be available in both hardwired and battery-powered options.

According to First Alert, it will be sold through retail outlets in the United States and Canada, as well as online via the Google Store and FirstAlert.com.

The projected price is $129.99 in the United States.

Distribution will also take place through Resideo’s professional partners.

Customers can pre-order the alarm now at FirstAlert.com.

Pat Tessier, Vice President of Product Development at First Alert and Honeywell Home solutions at Resideo, said: “First Alert branded products have been trusted to protect homes for 65 years, and partnering with the well-known Google Nest brand will provide an essential solution to help save lives.”

Anish Kattukaran, Chief Product Officer at Google Home & Nest, said: “The Nest Protect has been one of our most beloved devices and we are excited to be partnering with established industry leaders like First Alert so users can manage more of their safety devices together, for a safer and more protected home.”
