Federal response continues for hurricane Helene recovery

As reported by FEMA, federal aid for Hurricane Helene survivors has exceeded $286 million, while $180 million in mission assignments has been directed to federal partners.

Administrator Deanne Criswell is overseeing FEMA’s efforts on the ground, coordinating with federal, state, and local agencies to assist affected communities.

More than 7,000 federal personnel are deployed, and relief supplies including 16.2 million meals, 13.9 million liters of water, 210 generators, and over 505,000 tarps have been distributed across the region.

Survivors in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia are urged to apply for FEMA assistance.

Resources can be used for emergency needs such as food, water, and shelter, as well as repairs to damaged property.

Hurricane Milton threatens Florida as recovery continues

While recovery operations for Hurricane Helene remain ongoing, FEMA is preparing for the anticipated landfall of Hurricane Milton along Florida’s Gulf Coast.

Residents in the projected path of the storm are advised to stay informed and prepare immediately.

FEMA has approved over $129 million for Helene recovery in Florida and is actively supporting the state’s readiness for Milton.

FEMA officials and voluntary agencies are on the ground, helping survivors of Hurricane Helene apply for assistance and verify damage.

Florida residents can access additional resources through the Florida Division of Emergency Management’s website or by calling the State Assistance Information Line.

North Carolina’s hurricane Helene recovery efforts continue

North Carolina continues to receive federal support, with FEMA approving more than $40 million for over 30,000 households.

Around 1,000 FEMA staff remain deployed, along with over 1,000 Urban Search and Rescue personnel, who have rescued more than 3,200 individuals to date.

Recovery operations also include mass feeding and commodity distribution, with voluntary organizations like The Salvation Army and the American Red Cross supporting operations across the state.

Power and cellular service restoration is improving, with over 86% of power outages resolved and 85% of cellular services restored.

FEMA is also providing Starlink units to enhance first responder communication.

Aid for other impacted states

FEMA is also providing assistance to other states affected by Hurricane Helene.

In South Carolina, over $65 million has been allocated for more than 80,000 households, while Georgia has received more than $48 million for over 59,000 households.

In Virginia, FEMA has approved over $850,000 in aid for 123 households, and in Tennessee, $3.1 million has been allocated for 192 households.

Voluntary organizations are continuing to provide services such as emergency shelters, feeding sites, and other recovery resources in these states.
