FDNY celebrate 100 years of National Fire Prevention Week

The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) will celebrate 100 years of National Fire Prevention Week on Tuesday 7 October at 11:00 a.m. with its annual Fire Safety Day at Rockefeller Center.

Children from schools throughout the five boroughs will participate in the event, where they will also be learning lessons in fire safety from members of the FDNY Fire Safety Education Unit and the FDNY fire and life safety mascots, Hot Dog and Siren.

The FDNY will swear in the participating students as junior Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and students will have the opportunity to interact and view demonstrations with FDNY members.

“Fire Prevention Year”

In March of this year, FDNY Commissioner Tucker declared 2025 “Fire Prevention Year” in New York City.

Recently, the Department relaunched the #GetAlarmedNYC initiative, in partnership with the FDNY Foundation and American Red Cross, with a goal of installing 15,000 smoke alarms in the homes of New Yorkers.

Annually, the FDNY provides outreach programs to educate New Yorkers by promoting safe fire and life safety practices at thousands of locations and events throughout the five boroughs.
