Full Circle Lithium (FCL) has introduced FCL-X GEL to mitigate fire risks in large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) as global energy storage capacity projections rise.
The Toronto-based manufacturer designed this second-generation extinguishing technology to address the specific intensity of lithium-ion battery failures in high-energy environments.
Carlos Vicens, CEO of Full Circle Lithium, explained: “The global buildout of battery energy storage systems is happening at an unprecedented pace, but fire safety solutions have not kept up.”
“FCL-X GEL is a direct response to that gap—a next-generation technology designed specifically for the scale, intensity, and complexity of these fires.”
This announcement follows reports of major battery storage failures including the Moss Landing Energy Storage Facility incident in California.
Industry data indicates global energy storage capacity could expand more than five to six times by 2030.
U.S. deployments also continue to reach record annual levels to support grid stability and renewable energy infrastructure.
FCL-X GEL utilizes a proprietary formulation that adheres directly to battery surfaces to neutralize thermal runaway reactions through extended contact time.
This “cling” technology allows the agent to maintain integrity at the elevated temperatures found in industrial energy systems and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
The suppression agent provides continuous cooling to stabilize volatile chemistries and reduce the chance of reignition.
