The International Cooperation Process of the Colombian National Fire Department (DNBC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced a virtual course titled `Institutionalization of Forest Data’.
The new training space is free and is available virtually, through the Moodle platform of the FAO e-learning academy. The course will be taught between May 7 and June 6, 2025.
The Forestry Officer, Rocío Cóndor said the course will allow participants to: “Master key strategies for transparent and sustainable forest monitoring. Connect with a global network of professional decision-makers and experts.”
The course is aimed at decision-makers, forest owners, indigenous peoples, non-governmental organizations, academics or professionals who work in forest monitoring, data management and policy development.
At the end of the academic program, participants will receive a certification and digital badge, provided that they obtain a score equal to or greater than 75% in the final exam.
Importantly, the methodology includes videos, readings, quizzes, discussion forums and live sessions with experts, which are intended to expand on the ideas introduced by the FAO Voluntary Guidelines on Forest Monitoring.
The participating institutions that convene this space are the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
