Blackline Safety unveils new EXO 8 area monitor at NSC Safety Congress & Expo

Blackline Safety has announced the launch of its new EXO 8 portable area monitor, which is designed to enhance gas detection and early hazard identification.

The EXO 8 will be showcased at the National Safety Council (NSC) Safety Congress & Expo in Orlando, Florida, on September 16, 2024.

As reported by Blackline Safety, the EXO 8 is the only direct-to-cloud area monitor capable of detecting up to eight gases and gamma radiation.

The monitor is expected to benefit organizations in sectors such as oil and gas, petrochemical, mining, and homeland security.

It will provide real-time situational awareness and automated analytics to help organizations and first responders manage hazardous incidents efficiently.

Advanced features of the EXO 8 monitor

The EXO 8 builds on the technology found in the company’s previous G7 EXO model, adding new features that allow for more robust monitoring in hazardous environments.

It can detect a total of eight gases through its gas expansion module and now includes a gamma radiation sensor with extended range.

This next-generation monitor also offers a dual full-color display, enabling users to view live readings and quickly assess alarms or device statuses.

Designed for reliability, the EXO 8 is equipped with enhanced durability to function effectively in extreme environmental conditions.

Its direct-to-cloud connectivity allows for seamless data sharing and better coordination among responders during emergencies.

First responders share insights on EXO 8

Chris Johnson, a Hazmat Technician from Westchester County, New York, shared his perspective on using the EXO 8 in the field.

Johnson stated: “The ability to quickly swap out gas sensors to adapt to whatever threat we’re facing during response is invaluable.”

Johnson further emphasized the importance of gamma radiation detection: “Gamma allows us to use the device for public safety as part of event protection.

“It will also keep our people more protected because we can detect more gases.”

This feature is particularly useful in ensuring public safety at mass gatherings, where risks of radiological or explosive threats remain a concern for security personnel.

EXO 8 designed for public safety and large-scale events

The addition of gamma detection positions EXO 8 as an essential tool for monitoring large events and mass gatherings.

Though radiological dispersal devices have not yet been used in public settings, past attempts by terrorist groups have been thwarted.

The EXO 8’s real-time connectivity provides authorities with crucial data, allowing them to respond to potential threats swiftly.

According to Blackline Safety’s CEO Cody Slater: “With EXO 8, we’ve significantly expanded our customers’ ability to protect people and communities across a wider range of situations.

“We’re responding to a direct need in the market by providing organizations with more robust technology.”

First shipments of the EXO 8 are expected to begin in November 2024, and flexible purchase options will be available to suit various organizational needs.
