Tom Trzepacz, Vice President of Sales and Customer Relations at Performance Advantage Company (PAC), is among those leading the charge when it comes to the swift adaptation of tool mounting solutions to technological advancements in the fire sector.
A noticeable shift in the sector, as Trzepacz points out, is: “The rapid advancement in technology, along with the evolution of tools and equipment.” This constant evolution poses a considerable challenge for companies like PAC, which traditionally relied on highly specific mounting solutions.
“For many years, equipment like rescue tools remained relatively unchanged, with only minor modifications,” Trzepacz recalls.
Yet, the recent trend shows a sharp turn from this static past, demanding a strategic rethink.
Facing these challenges head-on, PAC has shifted from a model of specificity to a more adaptable approach.
“It now appears that almost every year brings changes and improvements,” Trzepacz remarks, highlighting the competitive pressure across the industry.
This rapid change has prompted PAC to adopt a more generic and universal design philosophy for their brackets, ensuring they remain compatible with the ever-changing tools and equipment.
Having been active in the tool mounting industry for over 30 year, PAC has not only built a robust product range but also maintains a proactive approach to evolution and enhancement.
“We continuously evaluate our existing product range,” Trzepacz explains.
This ongoing assessment ensures that even the longest-standing products are updated to meet the latest demands of the industry.
“We are dedicated to developing new and improved bracket systems,” Trzepacz adds.
The feedback loop with customers and dealers is critical as they provide the insights needed to develop solutions that enhance safety and security.
The goal, says Trzepacz, is to ensure that all tools and equipment are mounted securely, mitigating any risk of malfunction or hazard during critical operations.
“Our focus is on designing and developing brackets that can accommodate these tools, ensuring they are mounted safely and securely,” he explains.
Trzepacz also shares insights into PAC’s customer-centric approach through a recent example.
The company often deals with customers who need tailored solutions for outfitting new or existing trucks with appropriate tool mounting systems.
“Many reach out to us with a basic understanding of our products but are unsure where to begin the process,” he tells.
This is met with a collaborative approach wherein PAC works closely with clients to identify optimal solutions, guiding them from the measurement of spaces to the final installation of tool brackets.
The detailed process involves coordinating with dealers for hands-on assistance, and when necessary, laying out compartments and providing precise drawings.
“Once we receive a list of the tools and equipment they need to mount, we recommend the appropriate brackets for each item,” explains Trzepacz.
This thorough process ensures that each customer receives a customized setup that fits their specific needs and enhances the overall safety and efficiency of their operations.
A primary concern raised by PAC’s clients revolves around the compatibility of various brackets with the tools and systems they employ.
Given PAC’s extensive range of brackets, which sometimes have overlapping functions, customers often seek guidance on making the right choices.
“A lot of customers ask which brackets are compatible with their tools and systems,” Trzepacz shares.
In response, PAC has prioritized customer education and support to navigate their comprehensive product offerings, ensuring each client finds the ideal solution tailored to their operational needs.
“Another common question is around which brackets are compliant with NFPA standards,” Trzepacz notes, highlighting the critical importance of adhering to safety regulations.
PAC’s approach involves a detailed understanding of the specific applications and environments in which the equipment will be used: “Ensuring the safety of firefighters is paramount, so we emphasize the importance of using the appropriate NFPA-compliant brackets for any tools or equipment accompanying crew members in the cab,” he adds.
Lead times for product delivery are another concern among customers, particularly in an industry where delays are common.
Allaying these concerns, Trzepacz notes: “PAC’s lead times are exceptionally short, thanks to our consistent stock availability.”
To tackle the challenges of inventory management and lead times, PAC has invested in upgrading their inventory and sales management software.
“This upgrade has enhanced our ability to accurately track real-time stock levels and the time required for our team to assemble kits and dispatch them,” Trzepacz tells.
PAC is also focused on equipping their engineering and product development teams with innovative tools to aid in the customer service process.
“We have developed in-house tools, such as tool board calculators and drawing tools, which assist our teams in creating detailed quotes complete with tool board drawings,” says Trzepacz.
“These resources allow us to give our customers a clear visualization of the products they will receive, streamlining the approval process and significantly reducing the likelihood of errors.”
