Empire State Building honors EMS Week with special lighting

The Empire State Building, in partnership with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), was illuminated in yellow, white, and blue with their signature heartbeat effect at sunset on Sunday, May 19th, to celebrate National EMS Week 2024.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams said: “New York City’s EMTs and Paramedics are dedicated, brave, highly trained, and the best at what they do.

“They respond to thousands of calls a day, helping keep both New Yorkers and visitors safe.

“We owe them a great debt of gratitude and we are proud to celebrate them during EMS Week.”

Mayor praises FDNY EMS dedication

Mayor Adams emphasized the crucial role of EMTs and Paramedics in maintaining public safety.

He highlighted their daily commitment to responding to numerous emergency calls, ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors.

Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh added: “For 16 years, the Empire State Building has honored the hard work of the men and women of EMS in their iconic lighting display.

“FDNY EMS are dedicated professionals whose resilience and dedication lights New Yorkers’ darkest hours.

“During EMS Week, we celebrate the officers, paramedics, and EMTs who work diligently to care for New Yorkers in times of need.

“I am incredibly proud of all the hard work our members do each day.”

EMS Week promotes safety and recruitment

EMS Week is an annual celebration aimed at promoting public safety among New Yorkers and attracting potential EMS recruits.

It also serves to honor the lifesaving efforts of more than 4,400 members of FDNY’s Emergency Medical Service.

This year’s theme, “Behind Every Uniform is a Story,” underscores the personal experiences and dedication of the EMS personnel.

The Empire State Building’s partnership with FDNY has marked 16 consecutive years of celebrating National EMS Week with its iconic lighting display.
