Paraguay’s National Emergency Secretariat has confirmed the operational readiness of a dedicated emergency response ship as the country prepares for the potential impacts of El Niño.
The SEN minister visited Paraguayan Navy facilities to inspect the vessel and assess its capacity to support rapid response operations for vulnerable communities.
The inspection forms part of wider anticipatory action being led by the Government of Paraguay in response to the forecast climate phenomenon, which can bring increased flood risk and disruption to affected areas.
Officials verified the ship’s readiness for immediate deployment, including its ability to assist with flood response, evacuations and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
“Inter-institutional coordination and advance preparation are key to reducing risks. With the SEN vessel operational, we are strengthening our ability to reach where people need us most,” the minister said following the inspection.
The SEN said collaboration with other state institutions remains central to strengthening disaster risk management and protecting communities from severe weather events.
