Edwards launches touchscreen annunciator for faster fire response

Edwards has launched OneView, a software-based touchscreen annunciator designed to give first responders detailed, real-time insight into fire locations within complex buildings.

The company said the system replaces static annunciators, offering interactive floorplans, device-level information and easy updates when building layouts change.

Jon Hughes, Vice President of Product Management at Edwards, said: “Today’s buildings are too complex, and the environments too dynamic to trust to static annunciators that are difficult and slow to update.

“It allows them to react quickly and with all the information necessary to extinguish the fire, preserve valuable assets, and protect occupants.”

Detailed floorplans and device-level information

According to Edwards, OneView provides full floorplan displays showing alarm and fire locations, nearby hazards and safe access routes.

Users can zoom in, navigate between floors and access information for individual devices through the touchscreen interface.

Because the system is digital and software-driven, updates can be made easily as buildings expand or undergo layout changes.

The manufacturer said this design removes the need to replace hardware whenever a building’s footprint changes.

Replacing static annunciators with adaptive software

Conventional annunciators rely on static LED panels and limited diagrams, showing only general fire zones or floors.

Edwards stated that OneView overcomes these limitations by giving clear visual context for every alarm point across an entire facility.

The system can display multiple buildings on a single campus and show alarm activity for each floor, allowing incident commanders to coordinate resources more effectively.

OneView’s touchscreen interface can be used even while wearing gloves, enabling smooth navigation between building levels and devices.

Compatibility and certification details

Edwards confirmed that OneView integrates with its existing FireWorks licence and supports EST3, EST3X and EST4 fire-alarm panels.

The company said the annunciator is intuitive for untrained users, helping first responders act quickly with a full understanding of risks before entry.

OneView is UL 864 rated and available for installation in any region where UL standards are recognised.

Practical applications for emergency response planning

The OneView annunciator provides practical benefits for building managers, system integrators and fire departments responsible for large, multi-storey or campus-style sites.

For incident commanders, the ability to view real-time floorplans and hazard zones supports faster tactical decisions when directing personnel and vehicles.

System installers and facility managers can benefit from reduced maintenance and update times, as software configuration replaces physical rewiring or panel replacement.

The product’s compatibility with existing Edwards systems also allows cost-effective upgrades within current fire-alarm infrastructures.
