FEMA and DreamWorks Animation launch national PSA campaign

FEMA’s Ready Campaign and the Ad Council have partnered with DreamWorks Animation’s new film Dog Man to promote emergency preparedness among children.

The initiative features the animated character Dog Man encouraging children to take an active role in emergency readiness.

The campaign includes billboards, bus shelter ads, and 30- and 15-second public service announcements (PSAs) airing nationwide in both English and Spanish.

Lucas Hitt, Acting Associate Administrator for FEMA’s Office of External Affairs, said: “Empowering our children to be active participants in disaster preparedness is vital to creating a more prepared nation.

“This collaboration presents a unique opportunity to engage America’s youth in a relatable and impactful way, harnessing the beloved characters of DreamWorks Animation’s Dog Man to give the entire family the tools they need to be ready for anything.”

Campaign highlights four steps for disaster preparedness

The PSA campaign promotes FEMA’s four-step approach to emergency preparedness.

The guidance encourages families to stay informed about potential disasters, develop a family emergency plan, build emergency supply kits, and engage with community preparedness efforts.

These steps are designed to help individuals prepare for emergencies such as earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, and wildfires.

Since its launch in 2003, the Ready Campaign has generated more than 128 million visits to Ready.gov and its Spanish-language counterpart, Listo.gov.

Dog Man’s role in public awareness efforts

Dog Man, a character from Dav Pilkey’s bestselling book series, is featured in the PSA to help engage younger audiences.

The Dog Man series, launched in 2016, has sold more than 60 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 47 languages.

The latest books in the series, Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder and Dog Man: Big Jim Begins, were released in 2024.

The DreamWorks Animation film Dog Man, which opens in theaters on January 31, 2025, follows the titular character as he navigates crime-fighting challenges and outsmarts the villainous Petey.

The PSA campaign incorporates themes from the film, emphasizing planning and preparedness.
