The Detroit Public Safety Foundation (DPSF) has introduced a new initiative to honor the city’s first responders.
The Public Safety Distinguished Service Award, as reported by the Detroit Fire Department, will be presented at the Above & Beyond Awards Ceremony on November 13, 2024, at Ford Field.
This award seeks to acknowledge the exceptional efforts of Detroit Police Department (DPD) and Detroit Fire Department (DFD) employees who have shown distinguished service to their community.
Nominations for this award will be open from September 4 to October 9, allowing members of the public to nominate any current DPD or DFD employee, whether sworn or civilian.
The selection process will be based on the nominee’s service description provided by the person submitting the nomination.
The nomination process is straightforward and community-driven.
Detroit residents or others familiar with the service of a DPD or DFD employee can submit a nomination through a brief online application form.
The form includes a narrative question asking why the nominee deserves the award.
The DPSF will review all submissions and select one winner from the DPD and one from the DFD.
Winners will be announced by October 21, 2024.
The individuals who submit winning nominations will also receive an invitation to attend the Above & Beyond Awards Ceremony, along with a guest, to celebrate the achievement.
The Above & Beyond Awards Ceremony, scheduled for November 13, 2024, at Ford Field, will serve as the platform for presenting the Public Safety Distinguished Service Award.
The ceremony is part of a broader effort by the DPSF to foster a deeper connection between Detroit’s first responders and the community they serve.
DPSF’s role extends beyond organizing the award ceremony.
The organization facilitates donations from the community to support the Detroit Police and Fire Departments, helping to fund training, equipment, and various community programs that might not otherwise receive funding.
The Detroit Public Safety Foundation has been instrumental in providing resources to enhance the capabilities of both the police and fire departments.
Through partnerships with businesses and residents, the foundation ensures that these departments receive the tools they need to better serve Detroit.
DPSF’s efforts include obtaining advanced technology, purchasing necessary equipment, and sponsoring community-focused safety programs.
This award is another step in recognizing and supporting the essential work of first responders in Detroit.
