The DSAP focuses on installing smoke alarms powered by sealed lithium batteries lasting 10 years.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, homes with working smoke alarms halve the risk of fatal fire incidents.
The alarms installed through this program will give an end-of-life warning when replacement is needed.
Residents will also benefit from added features, such as eliminating low-battery chirps and avoiding regular battery changes.

These alarms feature strobe lights and can integrate with pillow or bed shakers that activate during an alarm.
