The City of Detroit Fire Department (DFD) has announced that Governor Gretchen Whitmer has officially signed HB5695, approving Michigan’s participation in the Ground Emergency Medical Transportation (GEMT) program.
This initiative will provide federal reimbursement for emergency medical transport services to Medicaid recipients, ensuring stable funding for DFD’s EMS operations and enhancing emergency medical care for Detroit residents.
By securing millions of dollars in potential funding, this program reduces financial burdens on local taxpayers while reinforcing Detroit’s emergency medical infrastructure.
The City of Detroit Fire Department shared: “We extend our deepest gratitude to Governor Whitmer, state legislators, local leaders and all stakeholders who worked tirelessly to make this program a reality.
