Dallas Fire Rescue collaborates on electric firefighting vehicle testing

Rosenbauer America and the Dallas Fire Rescue Department (DFR) have announced a partnership for the development and testing of the PANTHER 6×6 electric firefighting vehicle.

The pre-series vehicle is scheduled for delivery in mid-2025 and will be tested at Dallas Love Field Airport.

During a six-month evaluation phase, DFR will assess the vehicle’s performance under real operational conditions, including integration into daily workflows and training activities.

Sustainability efforts at Dallas Love Field Airport

Dallas Love Field Airport is aligning the project with its sustainability goals.

The airport has pledged to achieve emission-free operations by 2040 and is undergoing a modernization project at its DAL ARFF Station 21 to support energy-efficient initiatives.

Director Patrick Carreno stated: “The addition of the PANTHER 6×6 electric will contribute to DAL’s energy efficiency and reduce emissions.”

Design and performance of the PANTHER 6×6 electric

The PANTHER 6×6 electric combines electric mobility with high performance.

It accelerates from 0 to 50 mph in under 25 seconds and operates its water pump electrically at full capacity.

The vehicle can meet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements for firefighting operations.

Additionally, the vehicle can be fully recharged in under 20 minutes and has backup systems to ensure operational continuity.

Broader context for electric ARFF vehicles

The PANTHER 6×6 electric represents Rosenbauer’s efforts to support carbon reduction in the aviation sector.

Prototypes of the vehicle have been tested, and emergency organizations have been able to place orders since October 2024.

Sebastian Wolf, CEO of Rosenbauer International, emphasized the vehicle’s innovation: “We are setting a new benchmark in performance and emission reduction.”
