Congressman Bost brings fire service experience to new role

According to the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI), Congressman Mike Bost (IL-12) has been named chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus for the 119th Congress.

Bost has served as a representative for Illinois’ 12th District since 2015 and brings a strong background in firefighting and public service to this position.

Bost previously worked as a firefighter for the Murphysboro (IL) Fire Department and graduated from the University of Illinois’ Certified Firefighter II Academy in 1993.

He continued his firefighting service while holding office as a state representative.

His experience also includes serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1979 to 1982.

Jim Estepp, President of CFSI’s Board of Directors, emphasized Bost’s contributions: “With his fire service background, Congressman Bost understands the importance of Congressional support for America’s fire and emergency services.”

Bipartisan leadership continues in the Congressional Fire Services Caucus

The Congressional Fire Services Caucus is one of the largest caucuses in Congress, maintaining bipartisan leadership to support fire and emergency services nationwide.

The caucus leadership includes eight members, evenly divided by party, with four Democrats and four Republicans.

The chairmanship rotates every Congress, alternating between parties.

Bost takes over as chair following former Senator Jon Tester (MT), who led the caucus in the 118th Congress.

This bipartisan structure reflects the caucus’s commitment to addressing fire and emergency services issues without partisanship.

Bost expressed gratitude for the opportunity: “As a former firefighter, I know firsthand the dedication our first responders show to the communities they serve.

“I’m honored to stand shoulder to shoulder with my firefighter brothers and sisters.”

Focus on addressing fire and emergency services needs

The Congressional Fire Services Caucus plays a key role in educating members of Congress about fire and emergency services issues.

Members learn about federal policies and resources that impact first responders and their communities.

The caucus collaborates with organizations like CFSI to identify and address critical needs in fire and emergency services.

Its members advocate for resources to ensure first responders have the tools and support necessary for their work.
