CONAF Valparaíso has opened applications for 596 positions across its wildland firefighting brigades as the region prepares for the period of highest forest fire risk.
The National Forestry Corporation is seeking to recruit 368 brigade members, 34 brigade leaders, 53 squad leaders, 63 cooks, 19 drivers, and 59 base caretakers to support the regional fire response operation.
Applications opened on August 7 and are being handled digitally through CONAF’s website, www.conaf.cl. Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete physical tests, psychological assessments, and personal and technical interviews, which are due to begin in the region next week.
CONAF Valparaíso regional director Sandro Bruzzone said applicants must be at least 18 years old, have completed basic education, have no criminal record, and have physical and psychological health compatible with the role.
Patricio Balladares, regional head of CONAF’s Forest Fire Protection Department, encouraged both women and men in Valparaíso to apply, emphasizing the public service role of forest firefighters. “It’s a noble task, where we protect people’s lives, homes, belongings, and the environment,” he said.
Applicants for brigade leader, squad leader, and firefighter positions must complete the introductory Incident Command System (ICS) course, available at academia.senapred.gob.cl. Questions about the application process can be sent to seleccion.valparaiso@conaf.cl.
Successful applicants will receive training in fire behavior, operational tool handling, and safety protocols before joining the brigades.
CONAF Valparaíso is also recruiting for central dispatchers, logistics officers, and forest fire prevention specialists as part of its seasonal preparedness effort.
