Combatting the modern wildfire crisis

Gadi Benjamini, Co-founder and CEO of FireDome discusses the impact of connectivity and control and utilizing AI to offer reliable fire protection

Gadi Benjamini is the Co-founder and CEO of FireDome, a pioneering Wildfire Resilience-as-a-Service (RaaS) to protect communities, properties and critical infrastructure against the growing threats of wildfire.

Benjamini shared, in this exclusive conversation with Fire and Safety Journal Americas (FSJA), that FireDome are the only wildfire defense system that provides autonomous AI powered multi-layered protection.

With a far-reaching support from a collection of industry heavyweights, FireDome is on track to becoming the new global standard for wildfire preparedness and protection.

Benjamini shared how exactly the technology is helping to change the scope of wildfire defense.

Unlike point solutions that only detect fires or provide single-layer defense, FireDome creates peripheral firebreaks, covers critical structures and autonomously detects and suppresses spot fires before they spread.

He told FSJA how their solution is not a one trick pony, helping also to address critical gaps, such as operations in extreme wind conditions and fast-real time response.

At the heart of FireDome is your AI-powered mechanical launcher- could you break down the impact of utilizing AI to offer reliable fire protection?

You can think of our proprietary AI-powered electro-mechanical launcher as the ultimate, hyper-vigilant property guardian that never sleeps and never panics.

It delivers unmatched reliability and speed.

The system’s AI-powered decision engine and computer vision technology enable it to instantly detect a threat, confirm the fire and execute a defensive action in seconds while operating completely autonomously.

Gadi Benjamini

This is crucial because it ensures 24/7 protection, even if you’re evacuated or if local infrastructure has failed.

Eco-friendly capsules are shot out by your mechanical launcher, why was it important that FireDome was simultaneously safe and eco-friendly?

At FireDome, the safety of our customers, their families and first responders is paramount.

That’s why our system was designed with safety protocols that automatically pause operations when our computer vision detects hazards such as aircrafts, people or animals.

We also chose to use non-toxic fire-retardant materials.

They are meticulously tested, undergoing comprehensive toxicology and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) analysis before they ever reach the field.

In fact, our own CTO personally tasted the retardant to prove its non-toxicity!

Equally critical is our commitment to the planet.

We designed FireDome to protect the community and the local ecosystem simultaneously.

Our solution preserves valuable vegetation that traditional ‘defensible space’ rules often force homeowners to clear.

Gadi Benjamini

This includes essential agricultural assets like vineyards and groves, along with fruit trees and ornamental gardens.

We’re focused on maintaining the beauty and economic vitality of your property while providing protection.

A core component of FireDome is its connectivity and control. How do remote monitoring and real-time alerts help to advance knowledge and understanding of the wildfire- offering both short to long term results?

FireDome’s system starts applying the multi-layered protection after it receives external alerts like satellites, 911 calls, or fire service notifications.

From there, it’s able to make tactical decisions autonomously.

This creates a peace of mind for the property owner. They can evacuate, knowing their defense continues operating without them.

But, the real advancement is the coordination with first responders.

Fire Chiefs can remotely pause or shut down the system if crews are working nearby.

This level of real-time communication and control offers firefighters a strategic advantage, giving them operational capacity in locations where they otherwise couldn’t station crews.

Ultimately, FireDome’s connectivity means faster defense and smarter, safer firefighting efforts.

You have former US Fire Administrator, Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell on your Advisory Board and have received praise from other industry heavyweights, what has such a positive response meant to you?

Receiving support from industry heavyweights has been extremely validating for us and confirms that the work we’re doing isn’t just innovative but urgently needed.

When experts like Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell with decades of experience in fire safety give FireDome their seal of approval, it tells us that our solutions can address the critical gaps in preparedness that exist today.

Gadi Benjamini

You plan to begin US installations in 2026, why was bringing FireDome stateside a pertinent part of your mission?

We’re focused on bringing FireDome to California in the near term because it’s where the crisis is most acute and customers understand the problem.

California represents the pinnacle of the modern wildfire crisis with fires getting bigger and threatening communities year-round.

Gadi Benjamini

This has led to an insurance crisis, devastating economic losses and a massive challenge for the fire service.

We believe it’s where our solution can make the greatest, most immediate impact.

Alongside your plans to conquer America, what are your other aspirations and are there any other ways you want to help advance firefighting technology?

Our ultimate aspiration is to establish FireDome as the new global standard for wildfire preparedness and protection in every fire-threatened community around the world.

Our commitment to advancing firefighting technology focuses heavily on data and proactive intelligence.

FireDome’s systems act as a sophisticated smart sensor, constantly collecting real-time data on localized weather, fire behavior and micro-conditions.

Gadi Benjamini

By securely sharing this proprietary intelligence with fire agencies, we can help them dramatically improve their predictive models and strategic deployment.

Essentially, we want FireDome to become the leading wildfire protection platform and to be able to contribute vital intelligence that advances the safety and effectiveness of every firefighter on the ground.
