Eric Hurst joins Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control

The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) announced on July 26, 2024, that Eric Hurst has been appointed as the new Director of Strategic Communications, as reported by Aerial Fire Magazine.

Hurst previously served as Public Information Officer – Communications Manager at South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR) for the past decade.

His extensive experience in public information and emergency communications makes him a valuable addition to the DFPC team.

Hurst’s role at SMFR involved leading a team of Communication Specialists and serving as the spokesperson for various fire and all-hazard incidents.

His social media strategy significantly boosted South Metro’s global reach, making its YouTube channel the most-watched fire department channel worldwide.

Hurst also has 12 years of experience in 911 communications at MetCom, where he advanced to Operations Manager, overseeing a staff of 17 personnel.

Hurst’s background and achievements

Before his tenure at SMFR, Eric Hurst worked in various capacities, enhancing his storytelling and communication skills.

He volunteered as a firefighter with the Franktown Fire Protection District and served as a Disaster Team Captain with the American Red Cross.

His diverse career has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of emergency response and public communication.
