Colombia’s National Fire Department allocates equipment throughout the country

February 28, 2025

The National Fire Department of Colombia has announced progress in strengthening the country’s fire departments by assigning new equipment and replacing tools affected by previous emergencies.

This initiative sought to optimize the response capacity to fires, disasters and other events that require the immediate action of firefighters in the different municipalities of the national territory.

Previous efforts in recent years

During the years 2020 to 2022, resources were allocated to provide fire departments with specialized equipment.

This delivery included essential tools and accessories for emergency care, as well as replacements of those elements that suffered damage during rescue and fire control operations in various regions of the country.

However, some fire departments were unable to complete the legal documentation required for the receipt of the equipment.

Reallocation of resources

In view of this situation, a reallocation of these resources was made to other fire stations that did meet the requirements, thus guaranteeing their use in emergency care and the strengthening of the essential public fire service.

To achieve these deliveries in an efficient and timely manner, the Colombian Aerospace Force was supported for the distribution of the equipment in different regions of the country.

This collaboration allowed the crews to reach the fire departments in an agile manner, contributing to the strengthening of operational capacity in strategic areas.

National Director of Firefighters, Colombia, Chief Captain Lourdes del Socorro Peña del Valle’s statement

The National Director of Firefighters, Chief Captain Lourdes del Socorro Peña del Valle, highlighted the importance of these equipment assignments and the positive impact they would have on emergency response.

Chief Captain Lourdes del Socorro Peña del Valle commented: “The objective of the DNBC is to ensure that each fire department has the necessary resources to protect life, the environment and the assets of the community.

“We will continue to manage and articulate efforts to strengthen our service and improve emergency attention throughout the country and we once again call on municipal administrations and fire departments to keep their documentation updated.

“Thus allowing an efficient delivery of resources aimed at improving their operability”
