Attendees at the third general session of the 2024 Fire-Rescue International Conference saw the swearing-in of Chief Josh Waldo of Bozeman, Montana, as the new President and Board Chair of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC).

As reported by the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), Waldo officially took on his duties, joined by 1st Vice President Trisha Wolford of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, and 2nd Vice President Steven Locke of South Burlington, Vermont.

Waldo’s responsibilities include presiding over meetings and representing the IAFC as its official spokesperson.

During his acceptance speech, Chief Josh Waldo emphasized the importance of relationships in achieving the IAFC’s goals.

He pledged to lead with professionalism and dedication.

Waldo said: “I promise to do my best every day to represent the needs of our association on whatever issues face us.”

Miss Vickie Pritchett, Vice President of Advocacy & Outreach at the National Fire Sprinkler Association, swore in Chief Waldo.

She praised his dedication and his deep understanding of the fire and emergency services community.

Chief Waldo highlights collaboration and relationships in fire service

In his closing remarks, Chief Waldo reinforced the importance of unity within the fire service.

He emphasized the need to collaborate on key issues affecting the profession, stating: “We must continue to build and strengthen our existing relationships and look for opportunities to forge new ones.”

Waldo’s leadership will focus on fostering collaboration at all levels, from local departments to national legislation, ensuring that the IAFC remains a strong advocate for the fire service.

Chief Waldo continues role as Bozeman Fire Chief

While serving as IAFC President, Chief Waldo will maintain his position as the Fire Chief of Bozeman, Montana.

His tenure as IAFC President will last for one year, during which he will also continue his leadership roles in the Montana State Fire Chiefs Association and the Western Fire Chiefs Association.

Additionally, he will remain Chairman of the IAFC’s Program Planning Committee.

Waldo’s diverse experience will guide his work with the IAFC as he manages these multiple responsibilities.
