The Ceará Military Fire Department (CBMCE) marked a historic milestone on December 12, 2024, as it commemorated 30 years since the first women joined its ranks.
This groundbreaking event occurred on December 12, 1994, when cadets Diana Maria Veras Feitosa and Roberta Barbosa Teixeira began their careers in the organization.
Their entry into CBMCE represented a major step toward female inclusion in the military environment.
Alongside Rosana Busson Cavalcante, remembered posthumously, they paved the way for future generations of female firefighters.
Colonel Diana, now the first woman to achieve the highest rank in CBMCE, reflected on this milestone: “Today we complete 30 years, Roberta and I, We arrived and are building this path together with everyone.
“I am emotional because I know it went by so quickly, it was yesterday!”
Over the past 30 years, women in CBMCE have taken on increasingly prominent roles.
Female firefighters have occupied leadership positions, piloted aircraft, and worked in high-stakes environments such as rescue and fire suppression operations.
Major achievements include Major Rosana Busson Cavalcante becoming the first woman to pilot a CIOPAER helicopter and Lieutenant Colonel Samilly Jardim da Silva becoming the first woman to command a fire department in Ceará’s interior regions.
These milestones highlight the expanding contributions of women to the department’s success.
The anniversary serves as a testament to CBMCE’s ongoing commitment to fostering gender equality within its ranks.
The department acknowledges the critical role women play in strengthening its operational effectiveness and reinforcing societal values of fairness and inclusion.
The recognition of women’s efforts and achievements within the CBMCE underscores their importance in both daily operations and long-term initiatives.
This dedication reflects broader societal progress toward equity in traditionally male-dominated fields.
As CBMCE celebrates this milestone, it also looks to the future, aiming to build on the achievements of the past three decades.
With a continued focus on inclusion and support for female firefighters, the department intends to further its commitment to equal opportunities and impactful service for the community.
