CBMMG hold Special Sergeant Training Course graduation

The Military Fire Department of Minas Gerais (CBMMG) held a graduation ceremony of the Special Sergeant Training Course on Thursday 10 July.

The ceremony, held at the Lagoinha Baptist Church Temple, saw the graduation of 243 Sergeants, who now assume their new titles.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commander-in-Chief and Chief of Staff, Colonel Moisés Magalhães de Sousa, who presided over the event, accompanied by the class’s patron, Colonel BM Veteran Antônio Damásio Soares. Several civil and military authorities also attended.

To the tune of the Bombeiro Instrumental Orquestra Show, attendees sang the Brazilian National Anthem.

Commemorative badges

After this, the presentation of the course’s commemorative badges began, affixed by the godfathers and godmothers to the graduates, symbolically sealing the completion of the training cycle.

During the ceremony, the significance of the achievement of the Athena Class was highlighted—a name chosen in reference to the Greek goddess symbolizing wisdom, strategy and protection.

The values consolidated throughout the course—honor, discipline, loyalty, selflessness and courage—that shape the character and conduct expected of sergeants were also highlighted.

In this context, the sergeant was remembered as the link between command and troops, a tactical leader and a moral role model for his peers and subordinates.

In one of the most symbolic moments, the new sergeants pledged their allegiance to the National Pavilion, formally assuming their obligations to preserve public order and protect life, even at the cost of their own sacrifice.

Speeches given during the ceremony

The ceremony was enriched by the words of Federal Deputy Pedro Aihara and the class’s patron, Colonel BM Veteran Antônio Damásio Soares, who congratulated the graduates and reinforced the role of the sergeant in the organizational and operational structure of the corporation.

Closing the ceremony, Colonel Moisés addressed the graduates with words of encouragement, recognition and confidence in the future that lies ahead for each of them.
