CBMMG highlights the fight against violence against women

The Inspectorate of the Military Fire Department of Minas Gerais (CBMMG) in Brazil, held on 22 May 2025, the 5th Edition of the Legal Seminar, an annual event that aims to disseminate relevant information to the military and strengthen the prevention of illicit activities through the improvement of correctional practices and the ombudsman service.

With an interdisciplinary approach and emphasis on current issues, this edition highlighted the fight against violence against women, promoting reflections on administrative and criminal processes and procedures and on the role of institutions in protecting victims and holding aggressors accountable.

Features of the event

The event was held in a hybrid format, with in-person participation and live broadcast on the official CBMMG YouTube channel.

Reaching military firefighters from different regions of the state and being attended by the general commander, Colonel Jordana de Oliveira Filgueiras Daldegan and the Chief of Staff, Colonel Moisés Magalhães de Sousa, as well as authorities representing various State bodies.

Opening keynote

The program opened with a Keynote Lecture entitled “Maria da Penha Law and paradigm shifts in tackling domestic violence,” given by Adélia Moreira Pessoa, President of the National Commission on Gender and Domestic Violence of the IBDFAM, retired public prosecutor and adjunct Professor at the Federal University of Sergipe.

The speaker highlighted the legal advances and challenges faced in combating domestic violence, emphasizing the importance of a sensitive and coordinated approach among the institutions involved.

Next, a roundtable discussion was held on the topic “Professional practice, daily life and prevention of violence against women”, moderated by Captain Luciana Silva Procópio Fagundes, from the 3rd Section of the CBMMG General Staff.

The debate brought together Dr. Andreza Rafaela Abreu Gomes Meneghin, a specialist in social project management and conflict mediation and Corporal Bruna Cristina da Silva Hudson, a psychologist from the PMMG Domestic Violence Prevention Company.

The guests brought practical contributions and field experiences in assisting victims, highlighting the need for integrated action, ongoing training and qualified support.

Also in the afternoon, the lecture “Auto de Prisão em Flagrante (APF)” was given by Captain Adler Augusto Dias da Silva, a CBMMG officer with outstanding experience in the legal field and military advisor to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Minas Gerais.

The speaker addressed legal and operational aspects related to the preparation of the APF in the context of military activity, highlighting procedures, precautions and legal foundations.

Closing speakers

Closing the program, substitute judge Carolina Aleixo Benetti de Oliveira Rodrigues and advisor Marcus Vinicius Pereira Barbosa, from the 2nd Audit Office of the State Military Court, gave a lecture entitled “Arrest in Flagrante and Custody Hearings in the Military Court: Practical Aspects and Legal Challenges”.

The speakers addressed practical and jurisprudential issues involving the deprivation of liberty in the military sphere, highlighting the legal challenges faced by the Military Court in relation to legal guarantees and procedural procedures.

The 5th edition of the Legal Seminar reinforced the commitment of the CBMMG Internal Affairs Department to ethics, justice and the value of life, through ongoing training of military personnel and institutional strengthening.

In addition to deepening technical knowledge, the event promoted a space for dialogue and reflection on the importance of sensitive and qualified action in complex situations such as domestic violence.
