Authorities from the Minas Gerais Military Fire Department (CBMMG) and the State Forestry Institute (IEF) met on Friday 18 July at the headquarters of the 7th Military Fire Department in Januária, for a meeting aimed at preventing and fighting forest fires during the dry season in the North of Minas in Brazil.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the 4th Operational Fire Command (4th COB) and the 7th Military Fire Battalion (7th BBM), including Deputy Commander Major Fábio Gonçalves Spínola, the Chief of the operational division of the 4th COB, Major Wan Jhonson de Araújo Maia and the Commander of the 7th Military Fire Platoon of Januária, 1st Lt. BM Geraldo Gonçalves Xavier.
Representatives representing the IEF included the regional superintendent of forests, as well as managers of the region’s parks and conservation units.
During the meeting the CBMMG reported how topics were discussed; such as the current climate scenario, ongoing preventive actions, strategies for establishing operational bases at strategic locations and awareness-raising initiatives aimed at communities near conservation units.
Something else spotlighted was the joint efforts of CBMMG and IEF, reinforcing each institution’s complementary role in environmental protection.
Satellite monitoring tools, early fire detection methods and the organization of specialized brigades equipped with appropriate equipment were also discussed.
The initiative reinforces the inter-institutional commitment to protecting the Cerrado and other biomes in the region, consolidating integrated and efficient action in the face of the challenges posed by the dry season.
