The Rio de Janeiro State Military Fire Department (CBMERJ) will hold the State Vehicle Rescue and Trauma Challenge on 22 and 23 August 2025, at Pavilion 2 of Riocentro.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature simulated rescue tests for victims of traffic accidents trapped in wreckage and pre-hospital care for explosions, drownings, burns, workplace accidents and other injuries.
In total, approximately 200 military firefighters, divided into 34 pre-selected teams, will participate in the competition, which aims to exchange experiences, enhance operational skills and enhance the technical skills of service members.
Each team will have a timed time limit to complete their work, which will be evaluated by experts accredited by the World Rescue Association.
Each simulation aims to improve response time, coordination and efficiency in assisting victims, directly impacting the reduction of mortality in real accidents.
In the first seven months of 2025, the CBMERJ responded to more than 43,000 collisions, rollovers, vehicle crashes and pedestrian accidents throughout the state.
In addition to the tests, there will be several parallel activities for the public, including a display of vehicles and rescue equipment; educational activities on road safety; interactive spaces with simulations and training; and participation from companies in the sector with technical demonstrations.
Colonel Tarciso Salles emphasized: “The event is aligned with the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety (2021–2030), which aims to halve the number of road traffic deaths and injuries.
“By training military firefighters and promoting integration with other institutions and civil society, CBMERJ reinforces its role as a transformative agent in the fight for life and road safety.”
