CBMERJ participate in World Police and Fire Games

The Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro (CBMERJ) has announced it is preparing for another major international challenge and will represent Brazil in the 21st Edition of the: “World Police and Fire Games” (WPFG), which will take place between 25 June and 6 July 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama, in the United States.

The competition, known as the “Olympic Games for public security forces”, will bring together thousands of firefighters and police officers from all over the world.

A delegation made up of highly trained military athletes will represent CBMERJ, which will be present in swimming, running, firefighting (professional events) and CrossFit events.

History at the WPFG

In 2022, during the WPFG, the delegation won 24 medals. The following year, in 2023, the CBMERJ athletes exceeded expectations by breaking 6 world records, winning a total of 40 medals – 24 gold, 12 silver and 4 bronze.

In 2024, the highlight was Major BM Heloísa Fadda, who shone by winning 12 gold medals and Sub-Lieutenant BM Guilherme Tavares, who won a silver medal.

The CBMERJ delegation that will travel to Alabama will be made up of military personnel who will compete in several disciplines throughout the competition.

Competitors

Among them are Colonel BM Fábio Braga Martins, Lieutenant Colonel BM Fábio Gonçalves, who is making his debut in the CrossFit discipline and Major BM Valesca, who returns to the WPFG with the challenge of defending her four world records already set in the competition.

Major BM Heloísa Fadda, Major BM Miguel Morone Neto, who was the great amateur overall champion of the Rio 2025 Marathon, Captain BM Tamiris Vellozo Gama Candez, Captain BM Thalles Filipe Torres da Silva, Captain BM Leandro da Silva Rego, 1st Lieutenant BM Raphael Rocha do Nascimento, Sub-Lieutenant BM Iara Maria dos Santos; Sub-Lieutenant BM Guilherme Tavares and BM Soldier Priscila de Souza, an athlete who currently competes for Tijuca Tênis Clube.

Prevalence of the participation

CBMERJ’s participation in the “World Police and Fire Games” goes far beyond the pursuit of medals. It represents the motivation and strengthening of the military; the exchange of best practices and the continued physical and technical improvement of the firefighters.

More than a sports competition, this event represents the union between nations and corporations, based on the spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie and overcoming obstacles.

The mission of the CBMERJ team is to represent the state of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, strengthening international ties between Public Safety and Civil Defense professionals.
