The Rio de Janeiro State Military Fire Department (CBMERJ) has shared how the 1st Forestry and Environmental Relief Group (1st GSFMA) held the graduation ceremony for the 17th edition of the Forest Fire Prevention and Fighting Course (CPCIF) on 28th August in the Unit’s courtyard, in Alto da Boa Vista.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy General Commander and Chief of the General Staff, Colonel BM Sarmento; the Operational Deputy Chief, Colonel BM Lemos; the Director of DGEI, Colonel BM Rodrigo Azevedo; the Director of DI, Colonel BM Marcos Alves; the Commander of the 1st GSFMA, Lieutenant Colonel BM Luiz Diogo, among other authorities.
According to the CBMERJ, the course developed technical and physical fitness but also the emotional capacity of soldiers, enabling them to operate in high-risk, high-stress situations.
The comprehensive training aimed to teach techniques but also to strengthen resilience and teamwork, essential for successful operations in complex natural environments.
After three months of intensive training, enlisted personnel and officers become officially qualified to fight forest fires throughout the state and can also be deployed to support other regions of the country.
Created in 1992, the CPCIF began its first edition in 1993, becoming a resource for specializing firefighters in mountainous terrain and protected areas.
During their training, firefighters undergo specific training that includes forestry environment, field topography, mountaineering, aerial operations, fire behavior, firefighting technologies and techniques, including resource management and fire prevention.
Their work directly contributes to environmental conservation, biodiversity protection and the safety of the population living near at-risk areas.
According to Colonel BM Sarmento, family support was crucial for the graduates. He shared: “The corporation is reinforced by a select group of military personnel who have spared no effort to train.
“We also thank their families, who are essential to the routine and success of these professionals. May all the technical, physical and emotional training translate into victories on missions.”
The commander of the 1st GSFMA emphasized the rigor of the training process and the challenges that the new specialists will face in their future missions:
Lieutenant Colonel Luiz Diogo concluded: “Specialization has been achieved. Now, it’s up to each of us to believe in ourselves and fulfill the tasks ahead with excellence.
“We are confident in the preparation and commitment of these forestry fighters.”
