The Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro (CBMERJ) participated in the event called: “National Certification of Dogs in the modality: Urban Search”.
The event was held in the municipality of Itajaí, in Santa Catarina, between 30 September and 4 October.
The event brought together 24 Binomials (a pair formed by a soldier and his dog) from six states in the country, including: Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Pernambuco and Mato Grosso do Sul.
It was held with the aim of evaluating and certifying the technical preparation of teams specialized in search operations in collapsed areas.
The CBMERJ delegation included five dogs and six military personnel, including the corporation’s veterinarian, Captain BM Fabiana Cristina.
The group obtained four Urban Search certifications, with special mention for the Labrador, Belgian Malinois and White German Shepherd dogs.
The Corporation also shared its investment in technologies such as GPS collars, high-performance feed, modern vehicles, a veterinary surgery center and specialization topics.
These are more pertinent than ever due to the proximity to rainy season, a time that increases the occurrence of landslides and natural disasters.
