The 2025 Caribbean Coast Commanders’ Meeting was held at the Atlántico Governor’s Office in Barranquilla, Colombia with participation from members of the National Attorney General’s Office.
This event brought together fire department commanders from municipalities in the Caribbean region, who shared their concerns and needs for improving the operations and working conditions of firefighters in Colombia.
During the meeting, various topics related to the challenges facing fire departments in the region were discussed, highlighting the importance of creating spaces for dialogue and collaboration with government entities.
It was agreed to hold roundtables to evaluate solutions and strengthen the capacities of firefighters across the country.
Fredy Alonzo Alvarado, Captain in charge of the National Fire Department and current Acting Director, highlighted the importance of these spaces for exchange between fire departments and authorities.
He shared: “It is essential that firefighters have a space to be heard, since they face many needs that require attention in order to fulfill their mission of protecting the community more effectively.”
The meeting was intended to serve as a platform to reaffirm the commitment to continue working together to improve the resources and working conditions of Colombian firefighters.
Collaboration with the National Attorney General’s Office was essential to ensuring that these issues could be addressed comprehensively and with the support of the relevant authorities.
