The Brazilian delegation, led by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) participated in the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week.
The event, organized by the UN Office for Humanitarian Cooperation (OCHA) in Geneva, Switzerland, took place between 10 and 12 March.
The Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW) is one of the largest gatherings for Member States, UN agencies, NGOs, the private sector, academia and others.
The gathering aims to be a hub for sharing knowledge, conducting consultations and collaborating on challenges encompassing both humanitarian action and development solutions in crisis contexts.
The Brazilian delegation was composed of members of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency, the Commander of the Specialized Firefighting Command (CEB), representing the Commander-General of the CBMMG, Colonel Jordana de Oliveira Filgueiras Daldegan, the Commander-General of the Military Fire Department of Paraná, officers from the Military Police Fire Department of São Paulo.
Including the deputy Commander-General, a representative from the Brazilian Navy, as well as representatives from the Federal Revenue Service and the Ministry of Health.
The event was attended by delegations from countries on every continent, as well as the participation of organizations working in humanitarian assistance, including fire departments specializing in urban search and rescue (USAR).
The participation of the three Military Fire Departments (CBMMG, CBMPR and CBPMESP) consolidates another important phase in the commitment undertaken by the Brazilian government to enable the classification of a heavy urban search and rescue team (USAR Heavy Team) under the UN Insarag standard.
Allowing institutional alignment and closer ties with members of the French government, who will be responsible for mentoring the Brazilian team during this process.
During the visit, it was also possible to see the facilities of the Swiss Army Training Center, which has one of the best training structures for firefighters in Europe, with buildings specifically constructed for training in collapsed structures.
In light of the impacts of climate change, the recent disasters faced by the State of Minas Gerais and considering its vocation for humanitarian cooperation, the Military Fire Department reaffirms its commitment to the safety of the population, seeking to achieve, together with other corporations, excellence in disaster management.
