Brazil-Tanzania Cooperation places public security in Rio de Janeiro

A delegation from the State Secretariats of Civil Defense and the Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro (SEDEC-RJ/CBMERJ) and the Military Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro (PMERJ), formed by officers with experience in large events, tourist security and crowd management and disaster prevention actions have been in Tanzania, between February 13 and 24, to present successful experiences carried out in Rio de Janeiro.

The visit is part of a diplomatic project of national restructuring to promote quality growth in infrastructure areas in Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Lieutenant Colonel Renato Grigorovski, CBGMERJ’s representative in the mission said: “The partnership aims to strengthen emergency response capacity, in addition to improving infrastructure to keep up with the growth of tourism in the region with the proximity of the Africa Cup in 2027.

“Ensuring a safe environment for residents and visitors.”

The officers of the PMERJ and CBMERJ actively participated in the major events that took place in Brazil, especially in the state of Rio de Janeiro, such as the World Youth Day in 2013, the 2014 World Cup, the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the G20.

The group is part of the work team to encourage the implementation of actions to restructure public security and retrain the country’s military.

Lieutenant Colonel Wallerson Scherrer, from the PMERJ said: “Receiving this invitation is an indication that we are on the right track. In addition, it is a great honor to represent the institution in the reformulation of a country’s tourist security.”
