The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced a $2.76 million award to 3T Innovations, LLC as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
The investment, reported by The Bureau of Land Management, will support the development of communication kits designed to improve safety and efficiency in wildfire operations.
These kits will feature advanced radio systems with satellite capabilities, ensuring reliable communication during firefighting efforts.
BLM Fire Operations Division Chief, Brian Achziger, emphasized the importance of communication: “Reliable communication is the backbone of effective wildfire suppression operations.” The kits are expected to improve coordination among firefighters in both initial and large fire response efforts, particularly in high-risk areas.
The communication kits will be used in wildfire suppression across the country, focusing on areas at high risk for wildfires.
The goal is to enhance coordination during emergency responses by providing firefighters with the tools necessary to maintain constant communication.
These kits will be deployed to firefighting teams engaged in both small and large wildfire incidents.
Their satellite-based technology aims to address long-standing communication challenges in remote areas, ensuring better coordination among all involved personnel.
The $2.76 million awarded is part of a broader $10 million investment aimed at upgrading communication infrastructure for wildfire suppression.
This initiative addresses radio interoperability challenges that have historically affected firefighting operations as new technologies have emerged.
BLM’s ongoing investments in communication technology aim to enhance firefighting effectiveness, ensuring that personnel from multiple agencies can communicate seamlessly during wildfire emergencies.
The upgrades will benefit firefighters operating under various jurisdictions across public lands.
As part of the investment, training will be provided to communication specialists from the National Interagency Incident Communications Division.
Specialists from the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and BLM will also receive training on how to use the new communication kits.
These efforts will help ensure that all agencies involved in wildfire suppression are equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to maintain reliable communication during incidents.
The training will further enhance the effectiveness of emergency responses across the nation.
