Blackline Safety has reached a milestone of supporting more than 500 fire departments globally with its connected personal and area monitors.
The company announced an increase of over 40 percent in fire-hazmat customers in the last year – up from 350 – driven by real operational deployments.
Global users utilize the cloud-connected safety platform to perform high-risk work.
Deputy Chief Tyler O’Neill of the Burnaby Fire Department described the speed of deployment for the area monitors.
O’Neill said: “EXOs deploy as fast as you can take them out of the box and turn them on.
“The plume modelling takes the guesswork out of how the plume is going to move in real time.
“Now that we have that data, we’re able to make decisions quicker. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending it.”
His team recently deployed EXO 8 units around a refinery perimeter following an equipment failure.
The department used plume modeling and live gas readings to determine that an evacuation was not necessary.
Assistant Chief Robert Thompson of the Chattanooga Fire Department noted the hardware durability during events.
Thompson said: “The EXO 8 is firefighter-proof – we’ve dropped it, knocked it over, had it in high heat, and it just keeps going.
“The battery life is incredible. We can run it for entire events without worrying about charging. It gives us accurate readings we can trust, even in tough conditions.”
Italian hazmat responders selected the technology this winter to protect venues at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
The Belluno Provincial Fire Brigade paired EXO 8 Area Monitors with Gamma and wearable gas detectors for pre-event sweeps.
Teams used the devices to conduct active crowd monitoring for gas and radiation threats.
The newest wearable gas detector, the G8, began shipping in March.
These intrinsically safe devices combine gas detection and real-time communication while streaming data to the cloud.
Fire and hazmat departments can view Blackline Safety‘s the G8 and EXO 8 at Booth 743 at FDIC International 2026 in Indianapolis from April 23-25.
