Blackline Safety has announced the launch of the Blackline Safety Impact Awards.
This international safety awards program aims to recognize individuals and organizations that excel in ensuring the safety of their employees, communities, and the environment.
Christine Gillies, Chief Product & Marketing Officer of Blackline Safety, stated: “Blackline’s No. 1 priority is ensuring that every worker returns home at the end of the day in the same form they arrived, and that communities and the environment are protected from life-threatening situations.”
The first Blackline Safety Impact Award was presented to two utility workers from Columbia Gas of Ohio.
Matt Overcasher and Steve Manypenny received the Blackline Safety Community Hero Award at a ceremony on July 29 at the utility’s training center in Gahanna, Ohio.
The Community Hero Award honors individuals or groups who have made significant contributions to their community by going above and beyond in safety measures.
Overcasher and Manypenny were recognized for saving a child’s life using their Blackline safety device to get medical help quickly.
Last summer, Overcasher and Manypenny heard a mother screaming for help for her 18-month-old child who was struggling to breathe.
They used the emergency SOS feature on their Blackline two-way communication safety device to dispatch medical help.
Guided by Blackline’s 24/7 Safety Operations Center, they followed instructions until EMS arrived and revived the child.
For their efforts, Overcasher and Manypenny received an award and a $10,000 donation to the Ronald McDonald House of Central Ohio, their chosen charity.
Columbia Gas of Ohio, a brand of NiSource Inc., serves approximately 3.5 million natural gas customers and 500,000 electric customers across six states.
The utility industry involves various risks, and workers like Overcasher and Manypenny are trained to handle emergencies.
Blackline Safety provides a range of safety devices, including the G6 wearable single-gas detector, G7 personal gas detectors, and G7 EXO area gas monitors.
These devices offer GPS-enabled location tracking and are supported by the Blackline Live cloud-connected monitoring and analytics platform, ensuring real-time visibility of workers’ locations and gas readings.
The Blackline Safety Impact Awards will be presented annually across various categories, including customer, channel partner, environmental heroes, and community heroes.
