The Billy Moon Foundation has launched a newsletter, detailing recent updates and upcoming events. The Foundation commemorates the legacy of firefighter William P. “Billy” Moon II. In December of 2022, Billy fell during a training exercise inside the quarters of Rescue 2 in Brooklyn, NY.
Billy believed strongly in the power of organ donation, so the Foundation was set up in his honor to build awareness around the impact of organ donation, helping to raise funds to bring financial support to organ donor and recipient families.
The Billy Moon Foundation recently announced their annual Spring Gala on the 2nd April at The Heritage Club in Bethpage, NY.
The Gala will feature classic casino tables, premium cigars, live entertainment and a raffle. Sponsorships are available for the evening.
In the newsletter, the Billy Moon Foundation introduced their Foundation Board, the individuals who lead the organization. They include President Kristina Moon, President Jimmy Keane and Vice President, Lieutenant, Executive Director of FDNY Strategic Innovation, Keith Walsh.
The Billy Moon Foundation announced partnerships with two area transplant centers; NYU Langone and North Shore University Hospital. Here, they helped families with some financial assistance and a few other gifts.
In August, Nationwide Donor Day will be launched. According to the newsletter, the FDNY is one of the largest contributors to the bone marrow bank in America.
The Billy Moon Foundation say this is because every probationary firefighter class is given the opportunity to swab and become a potential match. Blood donation is available as well as registering organ donation in the same day. The Foundation want to bring that model to a community center near you.
