Aviation Specialties Unlimited (ASU) has received FAA Technical Standard Order (TSO)-C164c approval for its Lightweight E3 Panoramic Night Vision Goggle system, a milestone the company says will support broader use of advanced night vision technology in civil aviation.
The approval confirms that the E3 PANO system meets FAA performance, quality, and airworthiness requirements for approved civil aviation applications.
ASU said the Lightweight E3 PANO was developed to give pilots a wider view of their operating environment while maintaining the comfort and performance needed for demanding missions.
Unlike traditional night vision systems with a more limited field of view, panoramic night vision expands peripheral awareness during low-light and nighttime operations. The company said the system’s lightweight configuration is also intended to reduce pilot fatigue during extended or mission-critical flights.

The system was developed for operators that rely on night vision in challenging environments, including public safety, air medical, utility aviation, law enforcement, search and rescue, and other specialized civil aviation missions.
ASU said the wider field of view is intended to support crews during critical phases of flight, including takeoff, landing, obstacle avoidance, search operations, and tactical missions.
For pilots operating at night, improved peripheral awareness can help with faster recognition of obstacles, terrain, aircraft, and other visual cues around the aircraft.
The FAA TSO-C164c approval allows the E3 PANO to be integrated into approved aircraft configurations through applicable installation and operational approval processes.
For qualified operators and aviation programs, ASU said the approval provides access to a certified panoramic night vision solution supported by the company’s experience in aviation night vision programs.
