The Military Firefighters Academy of Minas Gerais (ABM) celebrated its 15th anniversary on the week of the 6 March, with a military ceremony held in Belo Horizonte.
The event brought together civil and military authorities, members of the corporation, institutional partners and students from various courses to mark the trajectory of the institution responsible for the training, qualification and specialization of the state’s military firefighters.
The ceremony included military honors, the awarding of Military Merit medals to members of the corps and tributes to partner institutions that contribute to strengthening military firefighter training.
During the event, the Scientific Publication Award from the Association of Military Police and Military Firefighters Officers (AOPMBM) was also presented, recognizing academic work developed by students of the Officer Qualification Course.
This initiative encourages scientific production applied to operational activities and public management in the area of security and civil defense.
Speaking at the event, the Commander of the Military Fire Academy, Colonel BM Ivan Santos Pereira Neto, highlighted the institution’s evolution over the last few decades and the strategic role of education in the quality of services provided to the population.
He shared: “What we deliver to the people of Minas Gerais today in terms of training and doctrine is the result of a process that began back in 1985, in the former Teaching Section.
“Throughout this trajectory, the Academy has moved beyond simply reproducing techniques to producing scientific knowledge applied to emergency response.”
He further emphasized that the Academy has established itself as a center of excellence in military firefighter training, responsible for ensuring that the service provided to the population of Minas Gerais is always based on science, technique and continuous professional development.
In her speech, the Commander-General, Colonel BM Jordana Filgueiras, highlighted the Academy’s role in building the corporation’s future and valuing professional training.
According to her, investing in education directly strengthens the institution’s operational capacity and the safety of the population of Minas Gerais.
The Commander-General emphasized that the ABM represents a strategic space for innovation, knowledge and the preparation of leaders who will work in all regions of the state.
The ceremony also marked the awarding of Military Merit medals in Gold, Silver and Bronze to firefighters who completed significant periods of service in the corporation.
Recognizing their dedication and good service throughout their careers.
Concluding the ceremony, the troop, comprised of students from the Officer Training Course, Officer Qualification Course and Soldier Training Course, paraded in salute to the Commander-in-Chief.
Symbolizing the continuity of tradition and the renewal of the ranks of the Minas Gerais Military Fire Department.
Formally established in 2011 and installed in its current headquarters in 2018, the Military Firefighters Academy has consolidated itself as a benchmark in the corporation’s professional training.
Currently, the institution offers higher education courses, specializations and continuing education programs, in addition to developing research focused on emergency management, disaster risk reduction and addressing contemporary challenges such as climate change.
Upon turning 15, ABM reaffirms its commitment to training professionals who are technically, ethically and humanly prepared to fulfill the historical mission of the Minas Gerais Military Fire Department: to serve the people of Minas Gerais.
